HNR has a specific remit to “translate” nutrition science in a way that can be used by industry, policy makers and practitioners to deliver real improvements to human health. Therefore knowledge exchange and transfer is an explicit part of the Unit’s mission.
Knowledge exchange and transfer encompasses all steps between the creation of new knowledge and its application to yield beneficial outcomes for society. HNR has a specific knowledge exchange and transfer strategy that is designed to enable us to accomplish this.
The objectives for our Knowledge Exchange and Transfer strategy are:
- to be a trusted source of nutrition information among our stakeholders,
- to translate our science into policy and practice,
- to pass our academic know-how to industry,
- to encourage and support a culture of evaluation outside traditional research communities
- to develop innovative ways through digital technology to communicate and disseminate our science.
Our knowledge exchange and transfer activities are facilitated by Nutrition and Health Communications and involve a range of methods ranging from seminars to media relations and publications to partnerships, but fundamentally we believe that this must be a two-way process.
HNR is committed to knowledge exchange and transfer, and makes a clear distinction between this activity which aims to promote and deploy academic know-how to specific users, and genuine engagement activity that promotes questioning from the public, and listening and involving the public in our research.
